With the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth has entered the limelight as a method of continuing care while decreasing potential infectious exposures. As leaders in the field of telehealth, Pennsylvania Dermatology Specialists utilize the latest technologies to conduct online visits quickly, efficiently, and safely from the comfort of your own home.

What is teledermatology?

Teledermatology is a video consultation with a dermatology specialist conducted over the internet in a HIPAA-secure manner. Teledermatology can be used to diagnose and treat new problems, as well as replace in-person visits for managing chronic skin problems. It can also be used to determine the urgency with which you need to see an “in-person” provider (triage)

How does teledermatology work?

  1.  Start by emailing us at to let us know you’d like a telehealth visit.
  2. If you haven’t already, fill out the new patient paperwork: New Patient Paperwork
  3. We use technology that does not require additional downloads or accounts to be created and is so intuitive it can be used by patients with any level of comfort with technology.

Are teledermatology visits covered by my insurance?

These visits are generally covered by your insurer, subject to the specific provisions of the plan. You may still be responsible for a co-pay or co-insurance.

Can I receive prescriptions via teledermatology?

Yes! Any medical services that don’t require contact can be performed with telehealth: this includes prescriptions, laboratory orders, and imaging studies. If your condition needs an in-person evaluation, we can conveniently schedule you for this at the conclusion of your telehealth visit.
